Why Is It So Hard?

Difficulty. Challenges. Obstacles.

Why not simple, straightforward, easy?

Why do humans make things so difficult? Is this some kind of natural human condition? As if the Universe doesn’t send enough nonsense our way to break up our days and our lives with challenges. Why must humans seek out the difficult way of living.

Specifically, why do so many people challenge the liberty of differences amongst their fellow humans?

Why are people so obtuse, obnoxious, arrogant and downright violent in their challenges to the idea that we are all human, we are all different, we all deserve the freedom to live our lives unhindered by the difficulties of another human’s judgments?

Why is it so hard for people to embrace others who look, think, act, differently?

Look at my cover photo above. Do you realize how long it has taken our “modern” society to embrace the unique beauty of these women? To celebrate their bodies as different from the “ideal?” (Who the hell created that “ideal” woman’s body concept, anyway? No doubt, a man, a white man)

And these women are not all white. Hooray for the advancement of the human race! Hooray! Someone finally woke up one day and said, “Why is it so hard for us to share the differences?” And so they did.

(Are you detecting the massively snarky and sarcastic tone I’m using?)

Even as a child I could never understand why other children treated certain other children badly. I’m not talking about the out and out bullies, although their behaviors were, for all intents and purposes, bullying. I’m talking about this general consensus that allowed groups of children to laugh at, belittle, and cast aside, those other children who were different.

I found myself, and still do, always seeking to embrace any and all other humans for who they are, never castigating another for being different, never judging someone’s uniqueness, never seeking out people who met certain standards for “the ideal.”

I have always embraced the texture of our life on this planet as a human; we are all different, unique, wonderful, amazing. Why is it so hard for other people to get that?
