Medieval Steak and Ale Pies

I have a complex sociological theory based on years of research that all human cultures have a food that is a hot filling in an edible wrapper. Yes, my theory is that a shared common thread of…

InfoSec ZimWiki

If you want to be any good at Infosec - Take Notes.
I mean - take your OWN notes.
Saving links does not equal learning!
One good article, written by you, is better than 100 Links to other’s work.
You wont be able to remember every hack, trick, script, exploit.
But, you CAN save them to a Wiki!

The person who writes the Wiki - knows the content.
Writing and Practicing = Learning
Sometimes I write just for myself (which might be happening right now), but I know that writing means learning. I am the student of my own self-made classroom.

I’m going to show you why I chose ZimWiki as my personal InfoSec Wiki…

Share/Sync:
Setup a custom ‘Push’ and ‘Pull’ to Github or Gitlabs.
If you want your Wiki public = use Github
If you want it private = use Gitlab

Create two batch-files in Windows:

Tags
Zim > Edit > Preferences > Plugins > Tags
I love tags. They make it easy to see what is in your Page.
Highlight the header-row in a topic… Click: Format > Heading 1 (or Ctrl-1)
You will see the color/format change for your selected text.
Headers will now show up in your Table-Of-Contents Panel!!!
If you use Heading-2 (Ctrl-2) it will live nested under your first header.
When you write a huge article - you can mark your topics, and easily navigate.
Just click on the Section you want in the Table Of Contents! No Scrolling!!

Search
After you’ve created a few articles, try the search feature.
You can search through all of your wikis, or for something inside.
Search for ‘Python’ to find all of the articles with Python.
Zim > Search > Search … to look everywhere
Zim > Search > Find …. to search inside a wiki
This comes in really handy when you need to a special script that you wrote.

Source View
Enable the Source Code View, if you want special code-blocks!
Zim > Edit > Preferences > Plugins > Source View
Zim > Insert > Code Block
You could also try three single-quotes between your Source:

I much prefer using the ‘Code Block’, though, because you can specify which language you are writing!

Tags
Create tags if you want to easy-view similiar topics
Zim > Edit > Preferences > Plugins > Tags (try the ‘Configure’ button too!)
Just use this format to automatically ‘tag’ something:

CamelCase
Disable it, if you don’t like it!
I hate it when I’m typing and Zim tries to start a new topic when I DoThis
Zim > Edit > Preferences > Editing > Uncheck CamelCase links
You could also, R-Click a linked page and choose ‘Remove Link’

Troubleshooting:
If you get a page that is acting strangely: Click to a diff page and back again.
Or close and reopen Zim.

Bonus:
Knowing that you CAN do something is almost as powerful as doing it!
