Do You Ever Question Your Beliefs?

The other day I got an opportunity to engage with one of Jehova’s witness.Usually,they don’t introduce themselves as witnesses,instead they tend to put out feelers,find out your perception of them,then drop the ball.Pro tip:Play along,you might learn something new.

And that’s what I did.I went with it.

I was seated at the waiting area,waiting for the receptionist to check me in for an appointment with the doctor.Busy reading an article on medium when a lady seated a couple of seats away handed me a brochure as an invitation to an event.Stretching my hand to pick the brochure I could already guess that she was a Christian evangelist.I thought of explaining to her that I was also Christian and that she didn’t have to go through the trouble of trying to win me over to the faith.Instead I read through the brochure.

She opened her mouth to speak.She explained that it was a commemoration of the death of Christ.A commemoration of the death of Christ!My face dropped.The event was scheduled during Easter.I let her know that I wouldn’t be available for the event but the reason is what gave me away.She probed alittle further.I couldn’t give in.

But I was curious ,so I asked,”What exactly will happen during the commemoration”She said,”The Lords Table would be served,but only the Annointed would partake of it.” More interesting than I thought.

I asked,”So who are these annointed,are you annointed?” She referred me to Revelations 14,I believe.Being the Bible Nerd I am,I asked,”Is it the 144,000?” She went on to explain more on the doctrine of the annointed,a lot of gibberish if you ask me.

Throughout the conversation,I kept looking at her eyes.I couldn’t help but judge her.I could tell that she was operating on what is commonly known as blind faith.Her beliefs and convictions were causing her to have such a distorted view of life.What a pity!But still she went on talking about The Organization.

At the end of our conversation I was forced to focus inward.I had to do an audit of my beliefs and convictions and whether they came across as self help.I questioned whether the God I believed in is real and whether my speech is any different from that of motivational speakers.Being Christian I wouldn’t want to believe that the stories I read about in the Bible are just that.I want to believe that they are real and relevant to the times we live in.

Engaging with one of Jehova’s witness made me learn a lot.That I need to be passionate and be ready to give a defence for what I believe.She is just one out of many who have been led astray.
