I have been so busy lately that I haven’t had time to indulge in one of my guilty pleasures: reading news on digital trends with a focus on “Disruption.” Over the past weekend, I was able to do so.
I think that the market for video streaming services and movie theaters are going to be upended in the near term with the rise of premium content platforms owned by studios (eg not content marketplaces like Netflix or Amazon). This trend is personified by the current conflict between AMC and Universal Pictures. Universal side stepped AMC’s movie theater business by going direct to consumer.
